The Kentucky Education Assessment Program is an ongoing effort to gather information regarding progress toward attainment of the educational goals for Kentucky citizens. Major emphasis is on the determination of the actual level of pupil performance in relation to desired performance. In the eighth grade, relevant information was gathered in five goal areas: General Education, Human Relationships, Citizenship, Physical and Mental Well Being, and Occupational Competence. Recognizing that information attained through a statewide assessment program should be utilized for decision-making to improve educational programs, objectives, and goals, this assessment procedure was developed to be valid at three levels: local district, Educational Development District (EDD), and statewide.
