By virtue of a Title III Elementary and Secondary Education Act grant, a student interest inventory instrument was devised to evaluate apprehensions of students attending 5 different high schools prior to consolidation of the Olympia Community Unit District 16 in Illinois. Initially administered to 183 ninth graders, 228 tenth graders, and 185 eleventh graders in May of 1972, the same instrument, modified to make it applicable, was again administered in April of 1973 (to tenth graders, 160 eleventh graders, and 155 twelfth graders) and in May of 1974 (to 143 eleventh graders and 167 twelfth graders). Students who were administered the inventory in 1973 and 1974 were those who had attended 1 of the 5 high schools prior to consolidation. The inventory included questions relative to study time; grades; feelings about the consolidated school; individual attention; availability of subject choices; guidance counselor assistance; the rural location of the school; quality of instruction; accessability of new teachers; the new building; rivalry among the 5 high school factions; instructional materials; friendship opportunities; transportation time; and extracurricular activities. In general, respondents indicated a growing appreciation of the new consolidated school. (JC)
