Career Exploration Workshop for Women: Participant's Personal Portfolio.
McCoy, Vivian; Cassell, Phyllis
The participant's portfolio contains a wide and rich variety of resource materials, tests, exercises, and activities designed to provide an orderly process for self-understanding and an understanding of the world of work, in a six-session career workshop for women. Moving step-by-step through the workshop sessions and through between-session assignments should help the participant to: (1) gain a clear picture of affirming life experiences on which to build her occupational choice; (2) involve family and friends in support of her career plans; (3) be assertive about her career plans in ways acceptable to persons important to her; (4) test her occupational interests and aptitudes; (5) research three occupations appropriate to these; (6) demonstrate strategies to making a career choice; (7) prepare job proposals, conduct the job hunt, and develop survival skills for academe; (8) build a personal portfolio of materials relevant to her career search; (9) integrate her personal goals with realistic knowledge of the current job market; and (10) experience support and sharing with other women making career choices. Films, role-playing, and discussions during the sessions support the materials included in the portfolio. (Author/AJ)
