Career Exploration Workshop for Women: Leader's Manual.
McCoy, Vivian; Cassell, Phyllis
The Career Education for Women workshop is divided into six three-hour sessions; the leader's manual duplicates the participant's, with the addition of suggested procedures and appropriate remarks, and a listing of sources for materials. Although the leader is encouraged to adapt the presentations, the basic order of the workshop should be retained, as it is planned to help a participant progress from awareness to exploration, reality-testing, decision-making, and action. Each session has several objectives, focuses on more than one area of personal and career development, and utilizes a wide variety of teaching and self-exploratory techniques, such as films, role-playing, inventories, readings, exercises, and discussion. Assignments to be carried out between sessions are introduced, and later, analyzed and utilized. Following is an example of at least one major objective for each of the six sessions: (1) to examine scripting and to practice strategies for surmounting roadblocks to career choice, (2) to analyze personal strategies for balancing home and job responsibilities and to begin life-planning, (3) to test individual likes and dislikes about the work environment and examine its impact, (4) to identify job preferences and competencies, (5) to research three occupations, and (6) to establish timelines.
