Types, Traits, and Transitions: The Lives of Four-Year College Students.
Koon, Jeff
Because the impact of college on students is not uniform, this work uses a typological approach to come to grips more adequately with the question of what happens to students who attend four-year colleges. Change, development, and senior "outcomes" are examined for each of 13 groups. The groupings were devised based on a statistical analysis of the students' responses to a vast array of questions about their attitudes, beliefs, commitments, and behaviors. The statistical data was supplemented by yearly personal interviews with a subsample who were studied more intensively. As a result of findings, the author stresses the need for colleges to revamp their power structures in an effort to humanize their institutions and provide students with decision making power.
