A Followup Study of 1967-70 Cooperative Urban Teacher Education Graduates.
Comeaux, Pamela Harris
The Cooperative Urban Teacher Education (CUTE) program enrolled 295 volunteer teachers in their senior year of college and trained them for one semester in an inner-city school. The program, operating from the fall of 1967 through spring 1970, included three components: sociology, mental health, and teacher education. The 1971 follow-up study of the CUTE program collected employment data from the 295 CUTE and 231 comparison graduates. Data indicated that a significantly greater proportion of the female graduates of the CUTE program teach in inner-city schools and plan to teach in the inner-city schools in the future. A significantly greater proportion of male CUTE graduates remain in the inner-city school. Subjective comments indicate CUTE graduates consider the training program to be a valuable teaching experience. (MJM)
