In the last 10 years the supervisory function has undergone many changes and has become increasingly important. The author believes that the personnel designing and implementing sophisticated programs of instructional improvement must be highly skilled. He stresses the strategies and practices of promoting instructional change and views supervision of instruction as a professional specialization. The book is based on recent research, practice, and theories. Part 1 defines terms, analyzes strategies, and presents alternative approaches to instructional supervision. Part 2 and 3 present research reports, research material, and case studies that amplify and illustrate the concepts presented earlier in the book. (Author/WM)
