Ninth Grade Social Studies: A Program in Political Science and Economics, Units on Political Processes. (Preliminary Edition).
Hayden, Colleen; And Others
The guide outlines units of study for grade 9 in political science and economics. The major objective of the curriculum is to help the student become a useful citizen and develop the thinking process in solving the many problems of society. Students are presented with information through the use of readings, some of which are from primary sources, and audiovisual materials. Teaching techniques used include questioning techniques to facilitate classroom discussion, games, and dramatics. The following units are outlined: 1) Political Systems; 2) Political Parties and Elections; 3) Executive Process; 4) Legislative Process; and 5) Judicial Process. Concepts to be taught along with the corresponding classroom activities and evaluation criteria are defined for each unit. All activities in the guide refer to numbered activities in the Minnesota Project Social Studies. Transparency masters, bibliographies, and supplementary resource materials are also provided. (RM)
