Options. A Study Guide to Population and the American Future.
Population Reference Bureau, Inc., Washington, DC.
This study guide on population, based on the official report of the Commission on Population Growth and the American Future appointed in March 1970, is designed for students but is also pertinent for discussion groups and seminars in the adult community. Major objectives emphasize learning how population actions change the size and character of population, and evaluating the impact of population changes, and personal and public decisions on population trends. Although there is sufficient material for an entire course the guide is arranged to allow for short study units. Background material for teaching is included but the major thrust is student inquiry, with personal involvement and recognition of one's role as a "population actor" deemed critical factors for effective learning about population. Instructors may choose from the activities section, which comprises the bulk of the guide, those appropriate for their junior high, senior high or adult participants. Goals spelled out by specific objectives are keyed to the activities to facilitate their efficient use. A bibliography and a Population Data Sheet conclude the guide. (JH)
