Children in the Learning Factory: The Search for a Humanizing Teacher.
Flescher, Irwin
According to this book of "psychological talks to parents and teachers," the American education system is a major social tragedy because it fails to recognize the potential of the individual. Individual differences are often ignored in the "assembly-line" approach to education and labeling children according to test scores is a way of dehumanizing them. It is questionable whether children are able to learn what is really worth knowing in the present educational system. Although faults of the system are perpetuated by educational bureaucracies, teachers themselves must humanize and restore love of learning to their classrooms. (CS)
