A Study of Attrition of U.S. Coast Guard Academy Cadets and Junior Officers Who Are Academy Graduates.
Enger, Isadore; And Others
The objective was to improve procedures for selecting entrants with better potential for (a) completing the Coast Guard Academy and (b) remaining on active duty after graduation beyond the mandatory five-year period. Stepwise multiple regression was applied to the information on 10 instruments to develop equations for predicting graduation. Five of the 10 are standard psychological inventories of personality traits and interests and five are Academy-initiated questionnaires with information on the applicant's academic, athletic, and leadership achievements, his family background, College Entrance Board scores and ratings of interviewers. Cross-validation was made of the Strong Vocational Interest Blank and the Adjective Check List. (Author)
