Various aspects of the academic growth of Catholic higher education are discussed. It is concluded that Catholic higher education is not nearly as weak as it used to be but not nearly as good as it can be. Schools could be much better now than they are if the relationship between the religious order and the educational institution was clarified, and if the men who were selected to be the top level administrators were so chosen because of their competence and vision in higher educational administration and not for extraneous reasons having to do with the internal structure of the religious order.
