Research on Synthetic Training: Device Evaluation and Training Program Development.
Caro, Paul W.; And Others
Two studies were conducted to evaluate a fixed-wing instrument procedures training device and to develop a training program for use with it. In the first, a group of trainees who received synthetic instrument flight training with the new device were compared with a control group who did not. Men trained with the device performed more satisfactorily than the control group. The second study concerned development and evaluation of an instrument flight training program designed for use with the new device. Results showed a 40 percent reduction in flight hours required to attain twin-engine transition and instrument flight objectives. It appears that concepts used in developing the program using the device apply to other flight training courses and other programs utilizing training devices. The research was performed by HumRRO Division 6, Aviation, Fort Rucker, Alabama, under Work Unit SYNTRAIN II. (Author/MS)
