The Third International Conference on Adult Education, organized by UNESCO, met to: (1) examine the trends in adult education during the last decade; (2) consider the functions of adult education in the context of life-long education; and (3) review the strategies of educational development in regard to adult education. The final report of this conference contains: (1) introduction: background and scope of the conference; (2) general report; (3) summary and main conclusions--concerning education and human needs, participation, use of the mass media, administration, organization and finance, and international cooperation; (4) reports of the commissions; and (5) recommendations--concerning, among other items, national policies for adult education, the aims of adult education, equal access to education for Women, learning opportunities for the underprivileged, international action against illiteracy, and training of adult education personnel. Presented in the annexes are the agenda, opeining speeches, statement by the Director-General at the close of the general debate, closing speeches, list of documents, list of participants, and list of officers of the Conference and commissions.
