Method in the Teaching of English.
Stryker, David, Ed.
Methods for the effective teaching of English are examined in 10 selected papers from the Fifth Conference on English Education held at the University of Georgia in 1967. Five of the papers consider the necessity of college English methods courses and propose revisions in them. The other papers discuss--(1) innovations in clinical experiences for the student teacher, (2) restructuring of the university curricula based on new knowledge and English materials, (3) what literature to teach and why, (4) the rationale of the national testing program and its methods of assessing growth in English, and (5) the use of examples of effective English teaching to develop a possible canon of concrete practices.
