Project Canada West. Kistu'Pewin, Volume I, Number 2.
This newsletter was organized with the purpose of issuing progress reports on the various curriculum development projects comprising Project Canada West. Volume 1 number 1 is described in ED 048 026. In this issue background information is given about the Project and the major understandings on which the objectives of the program are based. Briefly, the assumptions are that Canada is an advanced, industrialized, and urbanized society; multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, with two major linguistic groups; a vast country with regional differences, open to external influence. Fourteen curriculum development projects related to the theme of urbanization in Canada are examined here. In each case, rationale is given in terms of the particular approach, understandings are listed and objectives stated. Not all of the projects list materials to be developed, planned units or teaching strategies. Skills and attitudes to develop are discussed in some cases, as is age level for which the project is designed. The projects reflect varying degrees of development, with few to the state of discussing pilot studies and evaluation measures. Primary emphasis is on rationale and objectives. Related documents are ED 049 105, ED 055 010 through 020. (JMB)
