This curriculum guide for the teaching of English at the eighth, ninth, and tenth grade levels is presented in two sections. The first section, "Junior Secondary English Language," includes: "General Statement"; "Specific Suggestions"; "Relation of Language and Literature"; "Outline of Courses--English Language 8, English Language 9, English Language 10"; "Summary"; and "Language Reference Books." The second section, "Junior Secondary English Literature," includes: "English Literature 8, English Literature 9"; "Introductory Statement"; "Course Outline"; "Suggestions for Adjusting the Materials for Special Circumstances"; "The Short Story"; "Drama"; "The Novel"; "Non-Fiction Prose"; "Poetry"; "Intensive Reading"; "Testing English 9 Literature"; and "English Literature 10." Included in the appendix are suggestions for teachers for encouraging students to memorize poetry, a discussion of different classroom approaches, notes on evaluating and marking essays and examinations, and a literature bibliography for teachers.
