Report of the Ad Hoc Committee on the General Studies BA Degree Program.
Michigan Univ., Ann Arbor. Coll. of Literature, Science, and the Arts.
In 1969 the Dean of the School of Literature, Science, and the Arts at the University of Michigan appointed an ad hoc committee to study the possibility and plausibility of establishing a Bachelor of General Studies degree. After careful consideration of the curricula offered in the school, it was recommended that (1) the Bachelor of Science degree be changed to a Bachelor of Science degree in a discipline; and (2) that the Bachelor of Science degree be expanded in certain areas and become known as a Bachelor of Science in General Studies. As of May 1, 1969, students enrolled in the School of Literature, Science, and the Arts were eligible for the Bachelor of General Studies (BGS). This document presents the graduation requirements for such a degree, the process of selection of a degree program, information concerning the election of and counseling for courses, and the procedures for changing degree programs.
