The Changing World, Junior High School Science, Grade Eight, Student Manual and Teachers' Manual.
Baltimore County Board of Education, Towson, MD.
"The Changing World" program for the eighth grade consists of three phases: (1) The Surface of the Earth; (2) Changes in the Environment; and (3) Changes in Living Things. The teachers' manual and the student manual for phase one (The Surface of the Earth) are contained in this two volume set. The program is student-centered with an emphasis placed on the tools of the scientist or the processes of scientific investigation: observing, classifying, measuring, inferring, predicting, interpreting, and hypothesizing. The first 13 investigations in phase one deal with constructive and destructive processes that change the crust of the earth. The following 14 investigations integrate chemical changes that take place in the materials of the earth with geologic processes. The teachers' manual includes a discussion of the development of the seven through nine high school science program, and an overview, objectives, learning hierarchy, and teaching suggestions for phase one.
