Learning Time with Language Experiences for Young Children.
Scott, Louise Binder; And Others
This book treats the skills of language which are basic to all learning. Chapter 1 begins with an explanation of language and its stages of development. It also describes the kinds of interaction the child experiences with people and the impact of this interaction/on the child's self-image. Other sections of this chapter discuss children as poets, speech development, and the development of oral competency. In Chapter 2, a discussion is provided on the multisensory approaches to learning. Chapter 3 contains creative ideas for creative and relaxation activities. Chapter 4 describes the child's community life, with language skills emphasized in the child's dramatic play. Ideas for observances of holidays are the focus of Chapter 5, and Chapter 6 emphasizes seasons, and provides a background of materials about nature. Chapter 7 concentrates on a child's relationships with animals, and Chapter 8 describes the circus and zoo. Emphasized within the chapters are ways in which language is acquired by the child through: sense perception, interaction with people, spatial relationships, comprehension, verbal and body expression, and retention. An index for unit integration is provided. (Author/DB)
