Your Government and the Environment, An Annual Reference, Volume 1.
Kerbec, Matthew J., Ed.
Material in this environmental reference is designed to provide a systematic means of keeping abreast of the latest significant happenings in the environmental control field. It attempts to show the relationship between what is supposed to happen (Congressional legislation) and what is happening (Executive Department management). Each chapter--air, water, radiation, pesticides, and solid wastes--is sectionalized to present the following aspects of the pollution problem: (1) effects of pollution on man, animals, vegetation, and materials, (2) technology with emphasis on standards, monitoring, and controlling pollution, and (3) pollution enforcement procedures and penalties. Comprehensive appendices offer: (1) a listing of Congressional and federal organizations and functions concerned with environmental legislation and administration, giving their names, responsibilities, addresses, phone numbers, and contact personnel; (2) state environmental agencies, addresses and personnel in each of the five topical areas; (3) standards, criteria, and guidelines for pollution control of air, water, radiation, pesticides, and solid wastes; (4) 1972 budget figures for selected agencies having environmental programs; and (5) a breakdown of the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) budget, programs, and examples of EPA's grant programs. A consolidated glossary of environmental terms, an index, and numerous tables and figures complete the reference guide. (BL)
