Elementary Course in English, 2: Pre-recorded Tapes 51-100.
Sheeler, Willard D.
This book is the second volume of a two-volume basic course in spoken American English. In most cases, the student using this book will have used the first volume; a student could begin with this volume if he has enough vocabulary and certain basic structures. The basic organization is around the verb and verb phrase. There are thirteen three-lesson learning units and review units. The format for the first lesson includes basic sentences, conversation practice, learning drills, and words and expressions. The second lesson contains a dialogue, dialogue drill, questions to answer, participation drills, and words and expressions. The third lesson provides a reading, questions on the reading, pronunciation practice, practice exercises, and words and expressions. The main points of grammar concern four groups of verbs: the verb "be;" verbs, including all words that have a main form, Z-form, ing-form, past tense, and past participle; the auxiliaries "do" and "have;" and modals such as can, could, may, might. Students are asked to concentrate on and master the fundamental verb structures necessary for communication in English. Other vital grammatical points are also included. Tape recordings, workbooks, and a teacher's manual have been created to supplement the course. For Volume One, see FL 002 498. (VM)
