Training of Adult Educators in Tanzania.
Albinson, Folke; Kassam, Yusuf
The Institute of Adult Education (IAE) of the University of Dar es Salaam has, as its first priority, to provide extensive, as well as intensive, training to teachers and administrators of adult education. The training programs are divided into three categories: the Diploma Course, covering five compulsory subjects; training courses conducted in cooperation with other institutions; and teaching assistance in seminars. Principles that form characteristic features of the training activities are: (1) adult education as an instrument for rural development; (2) cooperation as an attitude of mind; (3) making use of participant's experience; and (4) bridging the gap between theory and practice. Plans for the future include improvements in the diploma program, evaluation procedures, examination system, political education, field assignments, women students, in-service training, and long-term planning.
