Writing Aids Through the Grades.
Carlson, Ruth Kearney
Developmental writing activities (186), based on the theory that the process of writing can be arranged in a hierarchical chain of learning experiences, are divided among six chapters: "The Ebb and Flow of Writing,""Composition Writing as an Artistic Expression,""Spelling Problems and the Flow of Expression,""Traditional and Experimental Verse Forms,""Oriental Poetry and Other Syllabic Verse Forms (for the Intermediate Grades)," and "Therapeutic Writing." Such activities as sharing and telling activities, motivational activities, cooperative story activities, and ballad study are suggested to encourage imaginative development of children's minds and to help youngsters find enjoyment and satisfaction in writing. Bibliographies of books and articles, films, filmstrips, and recordings are included. (DD)
