A Guide for Programs in Recreation and Physical Education for the Mentally Retarded.

The Project on Recreation and Fitness for the Mentally Retarded and the objectives of such programs are reviewed. Activity areas surveyed include physical fitness, motor ability, sports skills, special events, and recreation. Also considered are the following: testing and measuring individual progress, including psychomotor and physical fitness tests, developmental profiles, and awards; medical examinations; and facilities, equipment, and supplies. Inservice education and training are discussed, as well as activities for volunteers and parents; public relations and information needs are considered.
