In planning a program, school and community needs must be recognized; administrators, selected; and a step-by-step program for trainees, evolved. Objectives established should (1) develop an understanding of the philosophy of the elementary school, (2) acquaint aides with the assigned classroom schedule, and (3) develop an awareness of qualifications and responsibilities relevant to practical assistance in the classroom. This manual contains chapters devoted to classroom techniques, tips on bulletin boards, a guide to operating audiovisual equipment, a section on activities (games, music, finger play, and physical education), and chapters on aides' assistance in the library and in art, language arts, and math programs.
