Olsho, Lynne Werner; And Others – Developmental Psychology, 1987
Describes observer-based technique for assessing auditory capacities of infants from three to 12 months of age. This technique, referred to as the Observation-based Psychoacoustic Procedure (OPP), combines features of the Forced-choice Preferential Looking Technique and of the Visual Reinforcement Audiometry. Pure-tone detection and frequency…

Dahle, Arthur J.; And Others – Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders, 1979
Audiological assessment of 86 children (mean age 38 months at last evaluation time) with congenital cytomegalovirus infection revealed progressive hearing loss in four of 12 Ss with sensorineural hearing impairments. Case descriptions documented the progression of the hearing loss. (Author)

Poissant, Sarah F.; Maxon, Antonia Brancia – Volta Review, 2001
Auditory performance of 40 5-year-old children was measured using a speech signal that simulated the amplified signal a child with hearing loss would hear. Subjects were restricted in their access to speech due to the hearing aid, the decreased sensation level (simulated hearing loss) at which they listened, and distance. (Contains references.)…

Goffman, Lisa; Ertmer, David J.; Erdle, Christa – Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research, 2002
A method is presented for examining change in motor patterns used to produce linguistic contrasts. In this case study, the method is applied to a child who experienced hearing loss at age 3 and received a multi-channel cochlear implant at 7. Post-implant, acoustic durations showed a maturational change. (Contains references.) (Author/CR)

Stuart, Andrew; And Others – Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, 1990
Variability of aided sound field thresholds (ASFTs) was examined in 30 hearing-impaired children comprising 2 age groups (5-9 and 10-14 years). Findings showed that 2 ASFTs would have to differ by more than 10 decibels across signal test frequencies to attain statistical significance. (Author/DB)

Stander, Philip; Twersky, David – B.C. Journal of Special Education, 1993
This paper presents a diagnostic procedure in which a child's possible perceptual/cognitive problems and learning style are carefully documented to create a profile of the child's auditory and visual mode strengths and weaknesses. The profile created is intended to integrate the components of the educational evaluation into a meaningful whole.…

Trehub, Sandra E.; And Others – Developmental Psychology, 1991
A modification of the observer-based psychoacoustic procedure was used to estimate the detectability of auditory signals by infants. Data from infants up to 3.5 months of age revealed improvement in performance as a function of increasing signal intensity and age. (BC)

NIH Consensus Statement, 1993
This consensus statement on early identification of hearing impairment in infants and young children was developed by a nonadvocate, non-Federal panel of 58 experts during a 3-day meeting in 1993. The panel concluded that: (1) all infants admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit should be screened for hearing loss prior to discharge; (2)…

Woodford, Charles – 1991
This paper describes functions of the components of hearing aids and provides a detailed procedure to detect hearing aid dysfunctions. The most common type of hearing aids for school children are the behind the ear type. Various hearing aid components change sound into an electrical signal, which is amplified and adjusted by a volume control. The…

Weaver, Susan W.; Rutherford, William L. – Elementary English, 1974
A hierarchy of listening skills composed of environmental skills, discrimination skills, and comprehension skills can be used by teachers to develop an effective language arts program that includes an awareness of the stages of auditory perception. (JH)

GRIFFITHS, CIWA – 1967
A TECHNIQUE FOR OVERCOMING HEARING PROBLEMS IN INFANTS AND CHILDREN IS DESCRIBED IN THIS BOOK WHICH ALSO REPORTS ON 10 YEARS OF HEAR (HEARING EDUCATION THROUGH AUDITORY RESEARCH) FOUNDATION ACHIEVEMENTS. ANY CHILD IS ELIGIBLE FOR AUDIOMETRIC EVALUATION AND/OR THERAPY AT THE FOUNDATION, WHICH ROUTINELY FITS CHILDREN WITH BINAURAL AIDS. EXPLANATIONS…
