Spitler, M. T. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1983
Photochemical data are presented to indicate how use of sensitizing dyes extends the spectral range to which the substrate semiconductor is sensitive. Data demonstrate that specific energetic requirements exist for a dye to be an effective sensitizer. Also shows how photooxidation is increased by increasing surface concentration of the dye. (JN)
Descriptors: Chemical Reactions, Chemistry, College Science, Higher Education
Brochu, Michel – Science Dimension, 1983
In August, 1981, National Aeronautics and Space Administration launched Dynamics Explorer 1 into polar orbit equipped with three cameras built to view the Northern Lights. The cameras can photograph aurora borealis' faint light without being blinded by the earth's bright dayside. Photographs taken by the satellite are provided. (JN)

Samuel, Evelyn K. – Microform Review, 1981
Examines the current state of acceptance and use of microformatted visual materials for serious research in art. Problems of resolution, color fidelity, permanence, and large audience image display are discussed against new trends in publication and distribution which together can increase the holdings and research capacity of institutions.…

Brumbaugh, Douglas K., Ed.; Hynes, Michael C., Ed. – School Science and Mathematics, 1979
A classroom photography activity is outlined that motivates learning of mathematical topics such as estimation, geometry, ratio, measurement, and algorithms. (MP)
Descriptors: Algorithms, Geometric Concepts, Instruction, Laboratories

Chalmers, Graeme – School Arts, 1981
Suggests that observing, photographing, and discussing local buildings and places can help students form opinions about the built environment, the art form they experience most of the time. Leming, Charles W.; Hastings, Orestes Patterson, III – American Journal of Physics, 1980
Described is the phasor method of superposition of waves. The intensity pattern from a system of microwave sources is calculated point by point on a plane corresponding to a film emulsion, and then printed and directly converted to a hologram for 3-cm microwaves. Calculations, construction, and viewing of holograms are included. (Author/DS)
Descriptors: College Science, Computers, Higher Education, Holography

Stannard, Kent M. – Science Teacher, 1979
Stereoscopic photo activities for students are described for the purpose of motivating students in earth science. Included also is the necessary equipment for obtaining the three-dimensional effect. (SA)

Hickey, F. R. – American Journal of Physics, 1979
Investigates the "photographic" appearance of a cube moving at relativistic speeds, and shows that it depends upon whether the camera is held fixed with the optic axis perpendicular to the direction of motion or panned to follow the cube as it moves. (Author/GA)
