Morey, Leslie C.; And Others – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1983
Twenty-three different methods of cluster analysis were compared in a four-stage sequential validation design. Results demonstrated that the solution given by Ward's method of cluster analysis was particularly powerful in comparison to solutions yielded by other techniques. (Author/JKS)

Blatt, Sidney J.; Ritzler, Barry A. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1974
Rorschach protocols of all inpatients since 1960 known to have committed suicide either during or subsequent to hospitalization (n=12) are compared with the Rorschach protocols of a closely matched control group. The results suggest that the presence of transparency and cross-sectional representations is a reliable indicator of suicidal intent.…

Burrell, Quentin – Journal of Documentation, 1982
Discusses alternative forms of the desirability distribution for library materials and demonstrates the differences in short- and long-term patterns of frequency distribution in the circulation of library materials. Four figures, an appendix on statistical models for library circulation, and a reference list are included. (Author/JL)

LaBorie, Tim, Comp. – RQ, 1981
Lists library annual reports and statistical documents available from three sources: ERIC, the National Technical Information Service (NTIS), and the General Microfilm Company's (GMC) State Documents Relating to Libraries series. (Author/FM)

Levin, Joseph – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1979
Two applications of Kristof's theorem on traces of matrix products are presented in order to highlight their utility for psychometric theory and studies. (Author/JKS)

Yarnold, Paul R.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1994
A methodology is proposed to optimize the training classification performance of any suboptimal model. The method, referred to as univariate optimal discriminant analysis (UniODA), is illustrated through application to a two-group logistic regression analysis with 12 empirical examples. Maximizing percentage accuracy in classification is…

Grayson, David; Marsh, Herbert W. – Psychometrika, 1994
In confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), models exist that are admissible and demonstrably identified where the factor loading matrix from latent to manifest variables is of less than full column rank, even though other models are not identified. Implications for CFA are discussed. (SLD)

Thompson, Bruce – 1987
Canonical correlation analysis is illustrated and three common fallacious interpretation practices are described. Simply, canonical correlation is an example of the bivariate case. Like all parametric methods, it involves the creation of synthetic scores for each person. It presumes at least two predictor variables and at least two criterion…

Wolfle, Lee M.; Ethington, Corinna A. – 1985
The purpose of this paper is to examine the validity of regression estimates when skewed dichotomous scales are used as independent variables. When Pearson product-moment correlations are used to measure zero-order associations involving dichotomous variables, the resulting coefficients underestimate the true associations. As a result, using…

Thompson, Bruce – 1987
The use of planned, or "a priori," and unplanned, or "post hoc," comparisons to isolate differences among means in analysis of variance research is discussed. Planned comparisons typically involve weighting data by sets of "contrasts." Planned comparison offer more power against Type II errors. In addition, they force…

Heyneman, Stephen P.; And Others – 1978
This paper reviews studies from twelve less-industrialized countries on the relationship between textbook availability and academic achievement. The studies included a variety of measures, methodologies, and reporting procedures and focused on different achievement indicators, for example, math, science, reading, and language. The paper points out…
