Schliesser, Herbert F.; Cary, Marilynn H. – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1973
Presents the results of a study concluding that poorer oral stereognostic skills may not be indicative of poor speech performance. (TO)
Descriptors: Educational Research, Elementary Education, Perception Tests, Speech Skills
Parrish, John L.; Chassen, Larry R. – Education of the Visually Handicapped, 1972
A brief review of selected research on tactual perception was reported to reveal a lack of theoretical perspective, definition problems, and emphasis on applied research. (CB)
Descriptors: Exceptional Child Research, Research Reviews (Publications), Tactual Perception, Visual Impairments

Fucci, Donald – Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, 1972
Descriptors: Articulation (Speech), Research Projects, Sensory Experience, Speech Handicaps
Gabriel, M.; Ball, T. S. – J Exp Psychol, 1970

Williams, William N.; LaPointe, Leonard L. – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1971
Descriptors: Discrimination Learning, Perception, Responses, Sensory Experience
Borkovec, Thomas D. – J Consult Clin Psychol, 1970
By monitoring skin conductance and heart rate of 19 psychopathic, 21 neurotic, and 26 normal juvenile delinquents, it was concluded that the psychopathic autonomic characteristics resides in lower initial reactivity and not in more rapid adaptation, at least in response to a simple auditory stimulus. (Author/KJ)
Descriptors: Behavior Patterns, Delinquency, Individual Characteristics, Physiology
Siegel, Alenxander W.,; Vance, Billie J. – Develop Psychol, 1970
Descriptors: Analysis of Variance, Responses, Tactual Perception, Visual Perception

Descriptors: Analysis of Variance, Primary Education, Recognition, Tactual Perception

DeLeon, J. L.; And Others – Developmental Psychology, 1970
Descriptors: Intermode Differences, Pattern Recognition, Preschool Children, Tactual Perception

Rochat, Philippe – International Journal of Behavioral Development, 1983
Examines, in 30 normal infants from three age groups, differences in exploratory and sucking responses to artificial nipples varying in material and shape. Results suggest the existence of a developmental trend influenced by the type of nipple. Findings support the view that the mouth has a perceptual as well as a nutritive function. (Author/RH)
Descriptors: Age Differences, Dimensional Preference, Exploratory Behavior, Infants
Griffin, Harold C.; Gerber, Paul J. – Education of the Visually Handicapped, 1982
Four stages in the development of tactual perception are described (awareness of tactual quality, shape conception and recognition, graphic representation, and symbology systems). Educational applications for blind infants and children are given for each stage. (CL)
Descriptors: Blindness, Developmental Stages, Educational Needs, Infants

Moricca, Larry S. – Journal of Visual Impairment and Blindness, 1980
The studies involving two blind adults evaluated a new system-- Trigemina--that relates visual information to blind persons by tactile stimulation through a matrix of 10 x 10 vibrating rods applied to a postage stamp-sized area of skin over the forehead. (Author/SBH)
Descriptors: Blindness, Exceptional Child Research, Sensory Aids, Tactual Perception

Oller, D. Kimbrough; And Others – Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, 1980
The study demonstrates that, with a brief training period, deaf adolescents (N=8) can attain a high level of perceptual performance with a tactual speech system in discrimination of certain hard to lipread word pairs pronounced by both a male and a female speaker. (Author/SBH)
Descriptors: Adolescents, Deafness, Exceptional Child Research, Lipreading

Bentzen, Billie Louise; Peck, Alec F. – Journal of Visual Impairment and Blindness, 1979
To facilitate appropriate line choice for tactile graphic displays, 42 visually impaired Ss traced four types of tactile lines in a simple display (without intersections), and in a complex display (having intersections). (Author)
Descriptors: Graphic Arts, Performance Factors, Research Projects, Tactual Perception
