Schliesser, Herbert F.; Cary, Marilynn H. – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1973
Presents the results of a study concluding that poorer oral stereognostic skills may not be indicative of poor speech performance. (TO)

Parrish, John L.; Chassen, Larry R. – Education of the Visually Handicapped, 1972
A brief review of selected research on tactual perception was reported to reveal a lack of theoretical perspective, definition problems, and emphasis on applied research. (CB)

Borkovec, Thomas D. – J Consult Clin Psychol, 1970
By monitoring skin conductance and heart rate of 19 psychopathic, 21 neurotic, and 26 normal juvenile delinquents, it was concluded that the psychopathic autonomic characteristics resides in lower initial reactivity and not in more rapid adaptation, at least in response to a simple auditory stimulus. Rochat, Philippe – International Journal of Behavioral Development, 1983
Examines, in 30 normal infants from three age groups, differences in exploratory and sucking responses to artificial nipples varying in material and shape. Results suggest the existence of a developmental trend influenced by the type of nipple. Findings support the view that the mouth has a perceptual as well as a nutritive function. (Author/RH)

Moricca, Larry S. – Journal of Visual Impairment and Blindness, 1980
The studies involving two blind adults evaluated a new system-- Trigemina--that relates visual information to blind persons by tactile stimulation through a matrix of 10 x 10 vibrating rods applied to a postage stamp-sized area of skin over the forehead. (Author/SBH)

Oller, D. Kimbrough; And Others – Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, 1980
The study demonstrates that, with a brief training period, deaf adolescents (N=8) can attain a high level of perceptual performance with a tactual speech system in discrimination of certain hard to lipread word pairs pronounced by both a male and a female speaker. (Author/SBH)
