School Counselors Collaborating with Parents at the Secondary School Level
Lisa Glass Schuster
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Regent University
School counselors support students' academic, social, emotional, and career goals and are charged with the indirect role of collaborating with the parents to enhance this success. This phenomenological study explored the lived experiences of secondary school counselors collaborating with parents. Nine school counselors were interviewed and shared their experiences through semi-structured interviews in hopes of adding to the body of literature at the secondary school level. Although there are benefits to engaging parents through collaboration, this study provides insight into the challenges that arise. Implications from the study may serve as a guide to the school counseling profession. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
