Observations of children ages birth to five years were collected in seven states before and after implementation of legislation requiring use of passenger safety devices. Among results were observed increases in safe seating for children ages one-five in four of the five states implementing legislation during this study. (JW)

The author describes an educational program developed by the Iowa Association of Community College Trustees for chronic traffic offenders. Study evaluated bicycling habits and helmet use in 100 university students. Only 31 owned helmets, and 17 wore them during most trips. Helmet ownership was most strongly associated with previous injuries. Ethnicity and possession of bicycle injury insurance were also factors. Perceived risk was an important factor in helmet use.
