English Catholic laity wanted to establish lay schools independent of bishops. The bishops wanted one school for clerical and lay students. Compromising, they established under joint management clerical/lay schools throughout Great Britain. Never really satisfied, Catholic laity established two lay schools, both of which eventually failed. (RM)

The author suggests three elements of personal preparation to all Catholic educators, so that they will be comfortable in the catholicity of the school and reflective of Christ in their living and teaching: clear communication with God through prayer, sacrifice, and sharing. (Author/SJL)
