Counselors and their clients must communicate effectively. Because trained counselors do not always relate to the problems of his clients who are black and poor, this article examines the role that paraprofessionals, or indigenous counselors, can play in the ghetto. (Author)

The state-trait model was applied to empathy training, which was seen as resulting in a change in trainees' state empathy level. Successful trainees were differentiated and predicted on the basis of young age, high level of trait empathy, and high perception of the empathic functioning of the trainer. (Author)

Appraises the impact of unions on the wages of nonprofessional hospital employees in 21 metropolitan areas in 1966, 1969, and 1972. Effect of other wage determinants is also examined. There have been minor changes in their attitudes during the past three years.
