Examines the relationship between ownership type and care offered in 424 old age institutions (OAIs). Analysis revealed that the nonprofit sector allocates more money for direct patient care and as higher staff-patient ratios than proprietary institutions. During the Fall 1982 semester, Purdue pharmacy students elected to participate in a 24 class-hour course that stressed instruction and practical experience in geriatric pharmacy services. Ambulatory geriatric patients (N=370) were rated on the Geriatric Rating Scale and results factor analyzed. The scale was found to be composed of three factors: Withdrawal/Apathy, Antisocial Disruptive Behavior, and Deficits in Activities of Daily Living.
