Examined the influence of college housing assignments on retention of freshmen science majors, in a study of 103 students housed in proximity to other science majors and 43 housed at random. Compared environmental aspects of academic and nonacademic living units in a college residence hall in a survey of 141 students. This paper attempts to assess the impact of a residential academic unit on its participants. Subjects were 651 students enrolled in the College of Forestry at Colorado State University. Results indicate that those students involved in the residential unit were generally more satisfied. (Author/HMV)
