Metaphors give the brain a filtering system for handling overwhelming flood of incoming facts. Teaching and learning are definitely influenced by mental filtering systems; one student can view school as prison, another as a friendly gathering place to plan for future. This article compares teaching to a fishing expedition, replete with uncertainties, diverse adventures, and new discoveries and transformations. (MLH)
