Davenport, Betty M. – Psychology in the Schools, 1976
In order to clarify the concurrent validity of the Peabody Individual Achievement Test (PIAT) and the Metropolitan Achievement Test (MAT), product-moment correlations were computed for all subscores and total scores for 26 normal-range public school third-grade girls and boys. (Author)
Descriptors: Achievement Tests, Comparative Testing, Elementary Education, Elementary School Students

Colligan, Robert C. – Psychology in the Schools, 1976
The Minnesota Child Development Inventory was used to obtain parent observations on 59 children before the start of the kindergarten year. Results indicated that the parent report on a number of variables from the MCDI correlated highly with postkindergarten success in reading. (Author)
Descriptors: Parent Participation, Predictive Validity, Preschool Children, Preschool Education

Brandenburg, Dale C.; Forsyth, Robert A. – Journal of Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1974
Descriptors: Achievement Tests, Comparative Analysis, Item Sampling, Mathematical Models
Kaimann, Richard A. – Journal of Educational Data Processing, 1973
This material demonstrates the usefulness of an accurate space utilization analysis drawing inference from utilization statistics. (Author)
Descriptors: Cost Effectiveness, Educational Facilities, Facility Planning, Facility Utilization Research

Leslie, Larry L. – Educational Administration Quarterly, 1973
Research findings disclose the need for improvement of discrepancies discovered to exist between the role perceptions of faculty members and organizational goals of a Pennsylvania community college. Suggests the development of a sensitive screening instrument, or some means of educating faculty to the purposes of the 2-year college. (Author/JN)

Harry, Joseph; Goldner, Norman S. – Sociology of Education, 1971
Analysis of the data from a survey of members of a university faculty and of student attitudes toward this faculty indicate no relationship between student-rated adequacy of teaching and the extent of a teacher's scholarly activity. Instead, student criteria consisted largely of evaluations of the instructor's style. (Author)
Descriptors: College Faculty, Faculty Evaluation, Statistical Studies, Student Attitudes
Broderick, John J. – Improving College and University Teaching, 1971
Six suggestions offered to sociologists obligated to teach statistics to undergraduates in sociology programs. (Editor)
Descriptors: Course Content, Higher Education, Mathematical Experience, Sociology

Hedges, Larry V.; Stock, William – American Educational Research Journal, 1983
The results of reanalyses of statistical procedures used in the class-size meta-analyses by Glass and Smith are reported. The analyses suggest that the use of suboptimal statistical methods did not greatly affect the results of the meta-analyses by Glass and Smith. (Author/PN)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Class Size, Estimation (Mathematics), Hypothesis Testing

Sawyer, Richard – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1982
Rules are given for estimating accuracy of predictions based on a multiple regression equation. Formulas for moments of distribution and other parameters are noted. The approximate inflation in mean absolute error due to estimating the regression coefficients is a function of the base sample size and number of predictors. (DWH)
Descriptors: Colleges, Estimation (Mathematics), Multiple Regression Analysis, Predictive Validity

Ramsey, Philip H. – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1982
Monte Carlo results were used to evaluate procedures for discriminating between groups. A multiple testing version of Hotelling's T-squared and the Bonferroni procedure were most powerful for detecting at least one true difference, depending on conditions examined. A multiple Bonferroni procedure was superior in power for detecting all true…
Descriptors: Data Analysis, Educational Research, Evaluation Methods, Monte Carlo Methods

Douglass, Claudia B. – American Biology Teacher, 1979
Describes the author's efforts to develop a means of teaching biology that facilitates learning and improves students' self-attitudes. Results indicate that students are more academically successful when the instructional materials complement the students' style of thinking. (Author/MA)
Descriptors: Biology, Cognitive Style, Genetics, Research Design

Sehgal, Ellen; Vialet, Joyce – Monthly Labor Review, 1980
Describes recent research efforts to document the size of the illegal alien population and its economic and societal impact. Discusses legislative and other federal responses to the problem. (SK)
Descriptors: Economic Factors, Federal Legislation, Foreign Workers, Illegal Immigrants
Blumstein, Alfred; Cohen, Jacqueline – Evaluation Quarterly, 1979
Evaluations involving nonrandom assignment to treatment or control groups are vulnerable to an accidental or intentional confounding of a selection effect with the treatment effect. Two techniques, discriminant analysis and base expectancy analysis, permit separate estimation of the selection and treatment effects in the final results. (Author/CTM)
Descriptors: Comparative Analysis, Discriminant Analysis, Hypothesis Testing, Research Design
