Educational Fever and Credentialism in South Korea: From the Perspective of Higher Education
Jeong-Kyu Lee
Online Submission
The purpose of this study is to explore education fever and credentialism in South Korea from the perspective of higher education. To discuss the study logically, three research questions are stated. First, what is the concept of Korean education fever from cultural perspective? Second, what and how has been developed educational credentialism in South Korean society? Last, what are problems of educational fever and credentialism in South Korean higher education? To defend the questions, the author uses a content analysis method with a cross cultural approach. As for the limitations of the study, the first research question will be mainly focused on Korean education fever in terms of Korean cultural history. Education fever and credentialism are focused on the lenses of socio-cultural and socio-educational aspects in contemporary South Korean society and higher education. The significance of this study is to provide useful resources and basic theories for global education theorists and practitioners, finding educational fever and credentialism in contemporary South Korean society and higher education.
