The Emotional Impact of COVID-19 on Working Mothers in Higher Education
Jamie Hess
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Trevecca Nazarene University
This mixed methods sequential explanatory study aimed to understand the emotional impacts of working mothers in higher education during COVID-19 lockdowns and through the first year of COVID-19. The researcher conducted quantitative research in the form of a survey, which included a depression, anxiety, and stress screener. Participants who reported high and low levels of depression, anxiety, and stress on the screener were asked to participate in semi-structured interviews. The purpose of the interviews was to determine differences in support, both at home and at work between the two groups. The findings of this study can inform institutions of higher learning on how to support and retain mother employees in the case of a future pandemic-like crisis.
