Journal of Cognition and Development, v26 n1 p1-49 2025
Bayesian methods offer many advantages when applied to psychological research, yet they may seem esoteric to researchers who are accustomed to traditional methods. This paper aims to lower the barrier of entry for developmental psychologists who are interested in using Bayesian methods. We provide worked examples of how to analyze common study designs, demonstrating how to use Bayesian versions of traditional statistical routines (t-tests, binomial tests, correlation, linear regression, and ANOVA). By adopting this approach, we focus on providing researchers with Bayesian analyses that will be both immediately applicable and somewhat familiar. In the process, we introduce fundamental Bayesian concepts and fundamental challenges that come with using Bayesian methods.
