Presents a review and critique of recent research on the rate of Jewish alcoholism. Concludes that alcoholism is probably still relatively rare among Jews. Predictions of future Jewish drinking practices and implications for further research are discussed. (Author/BL)

Examined the effect of race on the MacAndrew Alcoholism Scale (MAC) performance of alcoholic (N=73) and nonalcoholic (N=73) inpatients in an active-duty military sample. Results showed that the MAC discriminated successfully between White alcoholics and nonalcoholics but not between Black alcoholics and nonalcoholics. (LLL)

Data were obtained from 308 alcoholic and 297 schizophrenics on the following variables: age, hospitalizations, funds, education, number and quality of jobs, time longest job held, placement related to past work, and marital status.
