Zuckerman, Miron; And Others – Journal of Research in Personality, 1979
Using task choice to measure information-seeking behavior, two studies examined situational determinants of choice among anagram tests varying both in difficulty and diagnosticity (information about one's ability). Subjects took a preliminary test before choosing. Study 1 manipulated pretest performance level. Study 2 varied payment for pretest…

Crocker, Linda; Benson, Jeri – American Educational Research Journal, 1976
Multivariate and univariate analysis of variance indicated that students tested under a norm referenced condition earned higher achievement scores than those tested under criterion referenced conditions. A significant relationship was observed between risk-taking and achievement only under a criterion referenced condition. (Author/RC)

Dodds, A. G.; And Others – Journal of Visual Impairment & Blindness, 1996
This study found that Nottingham Adjustment Scale items on acceptance of sight loss and attitudes toward blindness were free of response bias. Respondents (n=559) who were given only negative items disagreed significantly more with them than did those given mixed positive and negative statements. Respondents with poor emotional adjustment were…

Goh, Winston D. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Learning, Memory, and Cognition, 2005
The author investigated voice context effects in recognition memory for words spoken by multiple talkers by comparing performance when studied words were repeated with same, different, or new voices at test. Chang, Lei; Van Der Linden, Wim J.; Vos, Hans J. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2004
This article introduces a new test-centered standard-setting method as well as a procedure to detect intrajudge inconsistency of the method. The standard-setting method that is based on interdependent evaluations of alternative responses has judges closely evaluate the process that examinees use to solve multiple-choice items. The new method is…

Holland, Paul W.; Thayer, Dorothy T. – 1986
The Mantel-Haenszel procedure (MH) is a practical, inexpensive, and powerful way to detect test items that function differently in two groups of examinees. MH is a natural outgrowth of previously suggested chi square methods, and it is also related to methods based on item response theory. The study of items that function differently for two…

Suhadolnik, Debra; Weiss, David J. – 1983
The present study was an attempt to alleviate some of the difficulties inherent in multiple-choice items by having examinees respond to multiple-choice items in a probabilistic manner. Using this format, examinees are able to respond to each alternative and to provide indications of any partial knowledge they may possess concerning the item. The…

Garwood, S. Gray; Greenberg, Roy – 1978
This study examined the relationship between seventh graders' self-concept and level of cognitive development. It was hypothesized that level of cognitive development would predict self-concept response style (the tendency to select either extreme or less extreme descriptors on a likert-type scale), and that less cognitively mature young…

Ashford, Donnell C.; Baumeister, Alfred A. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1975
Presents a series of these experiments which examined cue function in trigram verbal discrimination learning by retarded subjects. The two variables of chief interest were: (1) trigram meaningfulness, and (2) reinforcement history. (Author/LLK)
