AERA Online Paper Repository, Paper presented at the Annual Meeting of the American Educational Research Association (Philadelphia, PA, Apr 11-14, 2024)
The purpose of this systematic review was to survey available measures of creativity for pk12 students for assessments characteristics and reporting of psychometric properties. Using the PRISMA framework, we identified 42 unique articles with 48 assessments meeting our inclusion criteria. Then, two coders independently coded all articles using a comprehensive coding system including, participant demographic variables, measurement approaches, and measure reliability/validity, identifying several areas for growth. First, very few studies reported race/ethnicity (7%), and few assessments captured the creative process (4%) or environmental variables (4%). Finally, less than half of the studies (45%) described how validity of the measures were established. This review also highlights positive developments in the field to support researchers' and practitioners' efforts in assessing student creativity.
