Exploring the Phenomena of Disparity Regarding the Representation of African American Women in Leadership Positions at Predominantly White Institutions in North American Higher Education through the Perspective of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

African Americans have faced many challenges in higher education over the course of time, especially in leadership at Predominately White Institutions. To increase the ability for minorities to service is prominent positions Diversity, equity, and inclusion must be present. When comparing the percentage of race and gender leadership positions such as: Presidents, Chancellors, Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Chief Operating Officers (COO), Board of Trustee members and other such important roles; African Americans fall below the minimal percentage. The issue is not that minorities are not qualified to fulfill the necessary requirements in specific leadership roles in PWIs they are more so glanced over for other significant reasons. The development of this cohesive study will examine how and why the lack of minorities are least likely to be appointed and or earned a right to serve in those leadership positions.
