A Qualitative Case Study Exploring District Level Factors of Passing a School Bond in a Texas School District
Jesus Gonzalez Jr.
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Concordia University Texas
The purpose of this research was to determine what a school district in Texas does to have consistent bond approval passages. The qualitative research consisted of three interviews that included six questions to district senior staff participants who closely work on school bonds. Research showed that the district relies on guided and established volunteer committees within the community. The district used strong communication skills and planning within its own central office personnel, along with educating and guiding all community stakeholders in regard to a bond. This in turn presented the district with voter support during a bond campaign establishing transparency and trustworthiness. The analysis demonstrated that establishing a strong trustworthiness approach by a district can help achieve a stronger outcome to attaining a bond request. It is recommended that a district be transparent to its voters by displaying all completed outcomes of a bond and noting their support to the bond has brought to the community. If these approaches are incorporated into a district's bond campaign, a favorable outcome on a bond election for many school districts may have success.
