Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory profiles of Post-traumatic Stress Syndrome outpatients (N=30) and newly admitted random psychiatric inpatient veterans (N=30) were found to be practically identical and were consistent with diagnosis of schizophrenia, indicating the severity of delayed response to stress in Vietnam veterans. Research on risk factors for schizophrenia is reviewed with emphasis on children of schizophrenic parents. Four areas of biobehavioral functioning that have been examined in high-risk research are discussed. Follow-up of 10 schizophrenic children admitted to a child psychiatric unit revealed that outcome was related to such factors as age of onset, and clinical subtype.
