Lee, E. T. – Information Processing and Management, 1976
Four advantages of storing and retrieving geometric figures and chromosome images through the use of shape-oriented similarity measures are presented. (Author)
Descriptors: Classification, Geometric Concepts, Information Retrieval, Information Storage
Ashbaugh, Carl R.; Williams, Martha – Phi Delta Kappan, 1976
A Texas survey discloses inconsistencies in the student records that are kept and in the policies on their release. Eight recommendations are offered for improving record-keeping practices. (IRT)

Finkelstein, Norman H. – Audiovisual Instruction, 1977
Microforms are a rapidly growing, convenient, and relatively inexpensive medium for information. Media professionals should explore the entire microform field and evaluate its potential for education. (Author/STS)

Allswang, John M. – History Microcomputer Review, 1987
Discusses problems resulting from incompatible computer systems. Outlines how to make interchange of data possible between systems. Concludes that with the popularity of microcomputers increasing, learning how to make information compatible between systems is essential. (BSR)
Descriptors: Computer Storage Devices, Computers, Higher Education, History
School Business Affairs, 1984
Describes specialized units that increase storage capacity. One involves two stationary units at either end of a track, with three or more movable units and one aisle; the other is an inclined rack. (MLF)

Langlois, Dianne C.; Von Schulz, Jeanne V. – Special Libraries, 1973
A survey of the R. E. Gibson Library's journal collection was conducted to determine: (1) which journal titles could be discontinued, (2) which journal holdings could be moved to remote storage, and (3) which journal holdings could be converted to microfilm. (7 references) (Author)

Feldman, Robert S. – History Teacher, 1973
Detailed examples illustrate one of the possible applications for using the computer punch card for information retrieval in qualitative historical research, suggesting a time-saving method of organization for research data. (SM)

Farradane, J.; And Others – Information Storage and Retrieval, 1973
The use of a structured system of storing information, particularly relational indexing, can lead to situations in which items would not be retrieved due to technicalities of the system. To overcome such problems a study was made of condensations with the aim of providing a series of rules to apply. (4 references) (Author/SJ)

Capps, Marie T. – Special Libraries, 1972
The problems of storage and maintenance which confront the map librarian are discussed. Included are the causes of map damage and deterioration, methods of detection and correction, and suggestions of further measures for optimum preservation. Useful guides on preservation and maintenance are cited. (7 references) (Author/NH)
Descriptors: Guides, Information Storage, Library Materials, Maintenance
Stanfel, Larry E. – Information Storage and Retrieval, 1973
A review is given of doubly-chained trees for information retrieval. It is shown that the chaining steps may be of different cost depending upon whether the step is vertical or horizontal. The problem of constructing an optimal retrieval tree is formulated mathematically and a solution procedure given. (5 references) (Author/KE)

Knudson, Donald R.; Marcus, Richard S. – Journal of Micrographics, 1972
The authors envision the library of the future as part of a large network of dedicated computers, each with specialized data bases and inter-computer communications for accessing other data bases. (4 references) (Author)

Huckaby, Sarah Ann Scott – Journal of Documentation, 1972
The adaptability of the theory of integrative levels to a generalised classification scheme is questioned in that its hypotheses have not been adequately developed and confirmed. It is suggested that not enough cognisance has been taken of twentieth century relativistic thinking in which space-time is treated as a continuum. (14 references)…
