Student evaluations of faculty teaching performance at the undergraduate level were examined in an experiment which used anonymous and nonanonymous settings as one factor and the professor being rated as a second factor. The psychometric properties of evaluation instruments were examined with particular emphasis on factors that affect validity. The findings suggest that caution should be exercised when interpreting student evaluations because their validity can be questionable. (MT)
