Galliher, Renee V.; Evans, Colette M.; Weiser, Desmond – Journal of Child & Adolescent Substance Abuse, 2007
Substance abuse is a primary concern for youth worldwide and increasingly so for Native American youth. Guided by theoretical models of the socialization of substance use in children and adolescents, we conducted a preliminary examination of socialization factors specific to Native American youth. Strong, pro-social bonds with three primary…

d'Acremont, Mathieu.; Van der Linden, Martial – Journal of Adolescence, 2007
The aim of this study was to validate a French version of the Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (CERQ; Garnefski, N., Kraaij, V., & Spinhoven, P., 2001. Negative life events, cognitive emotion regulation and emotional problems. "Personality and Individual Differences, 30," 1311-1327) and to explore its relationships with impulsivity and…

Fletcher, Kathryn L.; Cross, Jennifer R.; Tanney, Angela L.; Schneider, Mercedes; Finch, William H. – Early Education and Development, 2008
Reading to children has been advocated as a way to enhance language and literacy skills (A. G. Bus, M. H. van IJzendoorn, & A. D. Pellegrini, 1995). However, little is known about reading with children under age 3 (K. L. Fletcher & E. Reese, 2005), particularly in at-risk samples (A. van Kleeck, 2003). In the current study of 87 primary caregivers…

Drent, Marjolein; Meelissen, Martina – Computers & Education, 2008
This article discusses the factors which stimulate or limit the innovative use of ICT by teacher educators in the Netherlands. Innovative use of ICT is defined as the use of ICT applications that support the educational objectives based on the needs of the current knowledge society. Explorative path analysis and case studies were used to study the…

Wolfle, Lee M. – 1981
Hierarchial causal models are described as pictorial representations of multiple regression equations. These models are particularly helpful for three reasons: (1) the formulation of problems in a path analytic framework forces a degree of explicitness that is often not present in research reports that rely solely on regression; (2) they provide a…

Keith, Timothy Z. – School Psychology Review, 1988
A general introduction to nonexperimental research methods is presented, with a specific focus on path analysis. It is argued that school psychologists often engage in nonexperimental research, but that the methods used are often inappropriate. (TJH)

Locascio, Joseph J. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1982
A short description of cross-lagged correlation technique (CLC) in its most common form, a sketch of recent major criticisms of CLC as a test for causality, and a moderate appraisal of CLC as an exploratory technique are offered. (Author/PN)

Sobolewski, Stanley J.; Doran, Rodney J. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1996
Duplicates an analysis conducted 20 years ago on physics enrollment in New York State in an attempt to verify the exploratory percentage enrollment in physics path analysis model using data gathered for the 1990-91 school year. Findings indicate that there has been no change in the set of variables related to physics enrollment. (Author/JRH)

Hager, Mark A. – Alberta Journal of Educational Research, 1996
Responds to Krull's conclusions (1994) that higher educational attainment is indirectly related to sexual promiscuity through more liberal attitudes toward premarital sex. Criticizes Krull's omission of certain variables, recoding of variables, and assumption of a one-way causal relationship between sexual attitudes and behaviors. Reanalysis with…

Robitschek, Christine; Cook, Stephen W. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1999
Harren's (1979) model of career decision making was tested with 107 female and 98 male college students. Path analysis revealed that personal growth initiative predicted environmental exploration and vocational identity. Coping style predicted self-exploration. The model was a better fit for women than for men. (SK)

Wolfle, Lee M. – Structural Equation Modeling, 1999
Researchers interested in linear causal models discovered that a genetic biologist, Sewall Wright, had laid the groundwork for these models over nearly 50 years. This annotated bibliography covers Wright's development of the method of path coefficients. (Author/SLD)

Objective: Both mood disorder and suicidal behavior are familial. In this study, the authors examine the factors associated with the familial transmission of these two related conditions to learn which are shared or unique risk factors for familial transmission. Method: The 285 offspring of 141 probands with mood disorder were studied. Proband and…

Cheung, Hoi-Yan – Assessment & Evaluation in Higher Education, 2006
The aim of this study is to find out the levels of anxiety of 589 day- and night-class students in higher education in Macau two weeks before the final examination period. The Chinese version of the 40-item Spielberger's State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (Spielberger, Gorsuch & Lusherier, 1970) was applied in this study. The two anxiety scales are…

Hulme, Charles; Goetz, Kristina; Gooch, Debbie; Adams, John; Snowling, Margaret J. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 2007
We report two studies examining the relations among three paired-associate learning (PAL) tasks (visual-visual, verbal-verbal, and visual-verbal), phoneme deletion, and single-word and nonword reading ability. Correlations between the PAL tasks and reading were strongest for the visual-verbal task. Path analyses showed that both phoneme deletion…
